“Words of a Journey: My Thoughts on Life and Living” by Kaitlyn Kashman is a collection of a teen girl’s poems and insights on life and happiness. Following each of the 64 poems and thoughts is a blank page for the reader to write down thoughts. The poems were kind of fun to read because they would sometimes remind me of myself.
The poems and insights were mostly based on life, happiness, and love. One of the funniest insights and my favorite was: “Life is like a grocery store; you go in looking for one thing and come out with a lot more than you expected.”
I think that some of the poems were inspired by the author’s personal experience such as visiting her grandparents and having a special dance teacher. Others were about her interest in boys.
I would recommend “Words of a Journey: My Thoughts on Life and Living” by Kaitlyn Kashman to tween or teen girls who enjoy reading and writing about life. This was the kind of book that you would probably sit down and read when you were inspired about life and happiness or when you were sad and needed encouragement. I think it is meant to be more of a journal or a diary than a book that is just read once.
