“Warriors: Power of Three #5: Long Shadows” by Erin Hunter is the story of three cats – Jaypaw (later called Jayfeather), Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf. All three are great warriors in the eyes of their clan. But when ThunderClan is stricken with a plague of greencough, they must stick together to help the clans free themselves of the evil cat Sol. Will the cats be able to stand strong when a devastating family secret is revealed and a fellow clan member is murdered?
Sol, a white and brown tabby with long hair, is an odd tomcat with pale yellow eyes. Nobody knows where he came from. Sol’s plan is to convert the clans to not believing in StarClan (StarClan is a version of heaven where the cat’s spirits go when the die) and then become ultimate ruler of the clans. Will he succeed?
Sol successfully infiltrated ShadowClan, but the ShadowClan members were blinded to Sol’s evil plotting. Thankfully members of ThunderClan notice what is happening. To get rid of Sol, three cats from ThunderClan head towards a marsh near the ShadowClan camp to try and fake a sign from StarClan. Their plan is to dig up trees near the ShadowClan camp and tip over the trees to trick them into thinking that the omen was from StarClan. Will ShadowClan change its views so that they begin to realize that they were tricked?
Erin Hunter has written many Warriors books (a whole three series) about four clans of cats that have constantly changing alliances and even wars. The cats’ ultimate enemy is the two legs (humans) who have destroyed the cats’ original habitat and continue to terrorize the cats and threaten them with monsters (cars, bulldozers etc…). The books were all very good and were so well written that you can just pick this one up and read it without having read the preceding books. This book, like all her others, ends with a cliff hanger and you will be reaching for the next book.
I would recommend this book to people that like to read books about animals, especially cats. This book contained no language that parents would object to. “Warriors: Power of Three #5: Long Shadows” by Erin Hunter was an intriguing book and I hope that everyone who reads this book enjoys it as much as I did.
