“Warriors: Omen of the Stars #3: Night Whispers” by Erin Hunter is the story of three cats, Jayfeater, Lionblaze, and Dovepaw. When ancient and evil cats begin to gain influence within the clans, only these three cats can stop them. Cats from all clans are being converted by these evil cats from the Dark Forests and no one can be trusted. How will the clans react to each other when no cat and no clan can be trusted?
The clans have a sort of afterlife called Starclan where all dead cats go when they die. But the souls of the most evil and twisted cats go to Dark Forests, a place of no light and no life. When the souls contained in the Dark Forests begin to gain influence within the clans, Dovepaw is afraid that her sister, Ivypaw, has been training in the Dark Forests. Will Dovepaw be able to replace any trust or loyalty in her sister that has been eroded by the Dark Forests?
When Dovepaw discovers that her sister has been training with evil cats, she is afraid that Ivypaw will become a traitor to the clan. Dovepaw, Jayfeater, and Lionblaze must learn from Ivypaw to save the clans. With knowledge of the cats of Dark Forests, the three must prevent the damage before it is too late. Will they be able to save the clans, or will all the clans fall into a pit of deception and betrayal from which they cannot escape?
Erin Hunter has written many Warriors books (a whole three series and part of a fourth) about four clans of cats that have constantly changing alliances and even wars. The cats’ ultimate enemy is the twolegs (humans) who have destroyed the cats’ original habitat and continue to terrorize the cats and threaten them with monsters (cars, bulldozers etc…). The books were all very good and were so well written that you can just pick this one up and read it without having read the preceding books. This book, like all her others, ends with a cliff hanger and you will be reaching for the next series.
I would recommend this book to people who like adventure and especially cats. This was the third book in the fourth series. Once you pick this one up you won’t want to put it down until you finish it. In this intricate story of mystery and deception, no one can be trusted, not even Starclan. “Warriors: Omen of the Stars #3: Night Whispers” was a very good book and I can’t wait to read the next one.
