“UNPLUGGED! A Practical Guide to Managing Teenage Stress in the Digital Age: Proven Techniques for Promoting Emotional Wellness, Achieving Healthy Habits, and Building Resilience” by Oreste “Rusty” D’Aversa, is a well-conceived and well-organized book to help parents guide their teens in how to safely navigate technology-related stress in their lives. It’s no secret that teens are bombarded with technology day in and day out, which can lead to the unique stress of living in a digital world. But there is hope in finding relief, and this book will show you how to help your teen understand and deal with this stress.
Teenagers are well on their way to adulthood, but sometimes they make impulsive decisions that could place their emotional health in danger. They need help putting it all into perspective. This is where D’Aversa’s book comes in. Being a certified Life Coach, the author offers professional advice to concerned parents and stressed-out teens. Some of the tools the author suggests include some form of meditation, keeping a journal, taking nature walks; and this is just the first chapter, which addresses stress. The following chapters are outlined in such a way as to break down the entire concept into easy-to-understand components.
The book’s layout is simple, but the content of each chapter could prove profound in your teenager’s life. The second chapter deals with academic pressure, and offers practical strategies for coping like managing time wisely, finding a school/life balance, study plans, and paying attention to self-care. Additional chapters cover concerns a teen may have, like peer pressure, bullying, social media, political division, and trauma. All these factors help shape your teen, for better or worse, so why not teach your teen how to take proactive steps to manage them?
This well-rounded approach offered by D’Aversa is easy to understand and implement. Your teen won’t get bogged down by unnecessary detail or fluff. The book gets right to the heart of the matter and gives tips to use right now. As a former social worker, I especially find that the sections on diversity and open-mindedness toward different viewpoints could be particularly useful to adolescents. “UNPLUGGED! A Practical Guide to Managing Teenage Stress in the Digital Age” by Oreste “Rusty” D’Aversa, should be in the hands of teenagers, parents, teachers, and counselors everywhere.
