Grayce: “Thumbelina didn’t want to marry the animals, but at the end she found the prince. I loved when the fish found her to help save her and when Thumbelina cared for the swallow and he rescued her. I was scared for Thumbelina. I was afraid she was going to fall off the lily pad because she was so little and didn’t have enough strength to hold on. I bet they became great friends – the swallow and Thumbelina. I think the front cover and all of the pictures are beautiful. I would give it 18 stars.”
Parent’s comments: This is a simply gorgeous rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s “Thumbelina” as expressed through the eyes of illustrator, Sylvia Long. My daughter was captivated by the story because of the illustrations, which each feel like a work of art. Sylvia makes words become watercolor, as vivid as the wildest imagination.
