“The Very First Christmas- Changing Pictures” tells the story of Jesus’ birth.  There is part of the story on the top half of the page and then the reader is instructed to “change the picture” and then continue with the bottom half of the page.

“I liked how the pictures changed in this book by lifting the flap but they broke.  Some ripped though and now they won’t change anymore, they just look like a big mess of a picture.   We can still read the story about Christmas though and do some of the pictures.”

Parent’s comments:

When I first saw this book, I loved it!  My children adore interactive books and I thought that this would be a wonderful choice for the holiday season.   The text was great but it was the interactive illustrations that were the problem.   I am not sure if we got a defective book or what, but only two out of our six illustrations are still functional.   The first time we read the book everything went smoothly.   The second time we read it my 4-year-old wanted to lift the flaps.  The first time he tried one of the panels ripped making it so it wouldn’t work.  Thinking maybe he was too young to do it I told him that I would lift the flaps on the remaining pages.  Well, the same thing happened to me.  No matter how carefully or slowly I lifted the flaps the panels continued to rip.   Even the cover illustration, which is activated by just opening the top page, has ripped.   If the book was a little sturdier it would be a great book but now all we have left after reading it twice is the text with a jumbled up picture next to it.
