“The Union” by Rowena Portch is the story of forty-five-year-old Skye as she discovers both a world and a true love for herself.  In the previous book Skye met a man called Khalen and fell madly in love with him.  But then evil people known as Shadows came and attempted to kidnap her.  Skye must now join with Khalen to create an unbreakable bond between them to prevent Shadows from kidnapping her.  Can they be joined before the Shadows attempt to capture her again?

On her adventures, Skye discovered beings known as Spirians, not completely human or completely spirit.  The good Spirians were known as the Protected.  Each Spirian had several generic gifts, such as telepathy, as well as a gift almost entirely unique to that person.  Skye had the gift of healing.  But then evil Spirians, called Shadows, attempted to capture her and bend her to their will.  Will the Shadows succeed in capturing Skye, or will her new powers be enough to stop them?

When Skye lived with The Protected her gift powers intensified to the point where they almost surpassed those of the most powerful Spirian in the tribe.  However there would always be the risk of the Shadow’s stealing her unless she joined with Khalen.  Although Skye’s gifts are powerful, will they be enough to prevent the Shadows from stealing her and forcing her to join their ranks before she can join with Khalen?

I would recommend “The Union” to people who like romance and books that include paranormal events.  The book is the second in a series called “The Spirian Series.”  I think “The Union” would be most appropriate and enjoyed by teen girls.
