This book is about a young boy named Wolf. In this book there are all sorts of fun stuff! Elves, wizards, kings, knights, castles and much more! When Wolf discovers a castle next to Devil’s Edge he wants to check it out. Inside the castle there are huge rooms, stables, and lots of other cool stuff! While Wolf is exploring he bumps into the king of the castle, Lord Hugo. Lord Hugo asks “Who are you, why are you here?” Lord Hugo thinks Wolf is a runaway clerk or monk. He takes him to a room and gives him nice robes and shoes.
Wolf meets fellows named Brother Tomas, Rollo, Brunswick, and a Girl named Nest, and many more. Nest and Wolf make good friends and they like each other too. My favorite part is when Hugo and Wolf go to the mines and find an elf girl! Wolf and Nest take of the elf girl and name her Elfgift. They try to make her talk but it just does not work, but Elfgift can understand people, she just can’t talk!
There was some action throughout as well. I really like how the book is about many different kinds of fantasy stuff. I think kids who like fantasy and who are my age and up would enjoy this story. I did like “The Shadow Hunt,” but some parts where kind of weird and went too far, especially toward the end, which is why I gave it 4 starts instead of 5.
