Madeline: This is another great book from Peggy Krause. This book is about a cat named Spider Man and his friends. Spider Man got his name from two children, Ruby and Frankie, Marcy’s grandchildren. They named him that because Spider Man was their favorite super hero. Spider Man tries to survive with Ruby and Frankie but every time they see him they squeeze him so hard he can’t breathe! Spider Man’s owner Marcy always takes care of him, but when Ruby and Frankie come to visit they always do something bad to each other or Spider Man!
When Spider Man witnesses the “grand kittens” being bad he rushes to his friend Soupy’s house to tell the news to him and his other feline friends. Spider Man’s friends are Soupy, Puff Puff, Lila, and Lola. When they come to visit, Spider Man has to hide under the couch or on the fridge. Spider Man never likes their visits, but it gets worse by the second, Spider Man finds out that Ruby and Frankie are moving in with him! It is hard, but Spider Man can handle it!
After a couple of months Ruby and Frankie move out. Ruby and Frankie still visit, but Marcy teaches them how to be nice to Spider Man and they finally learn how! This book is very cute, funny, and crazy. The drawings are very good. This is a very nice book to read. I would love you all to enjoy this delightful book as well as “Finding My Molly.”
Sophia: This is the second book I have read by Peggy Krause. I enjoyed this book even more than the first book! This is a funny story about little kids loving a cat so much they squeezed him until his eyes bulged out! The “grand kittens” get in a lot of trouble, but they never get into trouble and that makes the cat Spider Man angry with his owner Marcy. When these events happen, Spider Man runs to his friends’ house and tells them the news. His cat friends try to make him feel good. Then one day Spider Man gets the worse news ever: Ruby and Frankie are moving in with him!
This book was funny and entertaining. I laughed in almost every chapter! I like books about cats. The cats in this book had cute names and were really good friends, especially to Spider Man. I think this book is pretty easy to read and I think that kids my age would like it. I like the cute pictures of Spider Man.
The only part of the story I didn’t like was when the kids hurt Spider Man.
I really liked the chapter about the flying pancake. Ruby threw a pancake at Frankie and it hit him in the eye. They were always doing silly stuff like that in the story.
We both really liked “The Scruffy Little Crumb-Grabbers.”
Parent Note for Author not for print:
Sometimes it seemed like a lot of information for this age group that was perhaps not needed. Instances where the situation was being described or dialogue between the characters was even a bit much for me. It seems like some of the dialogue could be “short and sweet” as the reader knows what is happening. Other than that, I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first one. The girls loved them both. Page 20, second line from the bottom has a typo of “hug” instead of “hung.”
