In “The Berenstain Bears: God Loves You!” a new school year has begun and Sister Bear decides to try out for the school show. Brother decides that he wants to be a member of the basketball team. They both complete tryouts and are excited about their prospects until they see the list of the bears that made the team. They are both on the respective lists but as Stage Manager and Team Manager. They are quite disappointed but there is a lesson to be learned.
Max: “I liked when Brother was playing basketball and when Sister was singing. I didn’t like when they didn’t get to do what they wanted to though. I liked the part about the rainbow at the end. They said God loves us even when we do naughty things sometimes. We learned that at school too!”
Parent’s comments:
There is a wonderful lesson taught in “The Berenstain Bears: God Loves You!.” The overall story was a good one and we enjoyed the familiar illustrations. However, the book seemed too wordy and it was hard to keep my child (and myself) interested in the story at times. Shortening some of the passages and more closely mimicking the writing style in the original Berenstain Bears books would improve this book greatly.
