“The Alfar’s Gift” by Diane Wright is the story of fourteen-year-old Danny who suddenly finds himself in possession of a strange and magical talisman. Meanwhile in another dimension, strife and discord are everywhere. Everyone lives in fear of the strange howling that can be heard all over the land and everyone is afraid that the forces of evil will attack. The only hope for them is Danny. Will he be able to help the good fairies and elves of the other dimension defend against the evil witches and nightmare creatures of the dark side, or not?
With the evil gargantuan ruler ever pressing at their borders and persistent fighting and discord, the good creatures attempt to send for a hero from a different dimension. That hero is Danny. As the good creatures fight to survive, the armies of the dark send evil nightmare creatures to attack the good creatures. Will the good creatures be able to hold out against the evil invaders?
When Danny arrives in the other dimension he arrives on the wrong side of the border and is quickly attacked by evil witches who plan to slowly and painfully kill him. Thankfully he is able to remove his ropes and escape by using his sword talisman. After some adventures and misadventures he is finally able to reach the elves and fairies, but will their combined strength be enough to defeat the evil forces?
I would recommend “The Alfar’s Gift” by Diane Wright to people who like action, adventure, and fantasy. This book is full of delightfully horrid creatures and I think that everyone who reads it will like it as much as I did. I have it on good authority that the author is already working on a sequel, and I look forward to getting my hands on it.
