“Queen of Halloween” is about a girl named Ann Estelle and her friend Michael’s adventures trick-or-treating. Ann Estelle is dressed up like a fairy queen and Michael is a pirate. Ann Estelle’s father accompanies them as they rake in tons of candy and goodies. Finally they are down to the last house, the “big and old” creepy one. Her father waits on the sidewalk while the two children try to be brave and walk up to the house on their own.
Cayden: “I was Thomas the Train for Halloween and Max was Eeyore.”
Cayden: “I like pirates though too! Pirates say Arrrrrrrrr!”
Max: “Arrrrrrrrrr!”
Cayden: “Max, don’t be scared those are just kids dressed up in costumes!”
Max: “Candy!”
Cayden: “Look at all that candy! That is a lot!”
Cayden: “Chocolate is my favorite.”
Cayden: “They are scared going to the last house!”
Max: “Scared! Scared!”
Cayden: “But they are trying to be brave!”
Parent’s comments:
“Queen of Halloween” is a wonderful Halloween story illustrated in the simple, classic Mary Engelbreit style. My children enjoyed the drawings and liked to try to guess what all of the other children in the book were dressed up as. Cayden loved the drawn-out-suspense at the end when Ann Estelle and Michael were walking up to the scary house and then loved the ending even more. We recommend this Halloween book to all of the little trick-or-treaters out there!
