“Puppy Stew” is about a witch who comes across a puppy while she is out walking in the park.  She picks it up as she feels that he will make an excellent addition to her soup.  However, the witch comes to love the puppy and spares him from the broth.

Max:  “Scary thing on cover!!  I like scary things!  Rrrarrrr!!”

Max:  “Puppy cute- no eat puppy!”

Cayden:  “She looks very scary and mean!  We like scary books!  I’m glad she liked the puppy and didn’t eat him.  I thought she was going to!  That wouldn’t have been good!  My favorite pictures were the ones of the mean witch!”

Parent’s comments:
When “Puppy Stew” arrived in the mail, my children were instantly drawn to the cover of the book.  They love “scary things” and the cover illustration of the witch definitely fit the bill.  The storyline, while predictable for adults, was very entertaining for my children.  The illustrations throughout the book were excellent and very fun to look at.  “Puppy Stew” by Caroline Gregory is a great, “scary” book and my boys absolutely loved it!
