Part of the “Peek” series by Marie Torres Cimarusti, “Peek-A-Choo-Choo!” teaches toddlers all about the noises that race cars and tugboats and submarines and fire trucks and trains make.  There are also airplanes and rockets that blast in the air.  Then a special surprise at the end – toot toot – it’s the ice cream truck!

“Peek-a-Choo-Choo!” uses the repetition of “Guess who?  Peek-a-” followed by an oversized flap partially hiding a form of transportation.  My son Carter (age 3) has lots of fun guessing what is hiding under the big flaps.  One day the “3-2-1 Blast Off Rocket” is the favorite the next day it might be the “urr-urrrrrrrrrrr! shrieking fire truck” or the “vroom, vroom! revving racecar.”  Whatever the day, he can’t wait to get to the very back where two pages of little flaps list all the noises, allowing him to guess what vehicle is hiding underneath!

“Peek-a-Choo-Choo” is a fabulous oversized book full of lots of bright colors and bold illustrations.  It continues to take many trips off the shelf and is surviving the reading and re-reading with ease.  The large sturdy flaps are enduring much better than some of our other flap books, as are the sturdy pages, and high quality hardcover.  The interaction, repetition, bold illustrations and high quality make this a highly recommended book and great gift idea for toddlers and preschoolers.
