“My Sparkling Misfortune” by Laura Lond is a great book. The story is told by the main character, an evil villain named Lord Arkus of the Blackriver Castle. The book opens with an amusing discussion between Arkus and his equally rotten arch nemesis Prince Kellemar of Dalvanna about cooperating to destroy a mutual enemy and steal their treasure. They are both thoroughly sneaky and selfish, but finally they agree to the mission. While the Prince sticks to the letter of their agreement to not hurt Arkus, might he be able to find a more creative way to destroy Arkus and get all the treasure for himself?
When Arkus entered the cave, there was much more gold than he had expected……but there was also something else: a growl. He had heard that sound before and knew it was bad news. You will have to read the book to find out what happens next.
Arkus decided he needed some help. He fled to Silky Lake where he hoped he could catch an evil monster called a gormack who could help him to exact his revenge upon the Prince and do other evil deeds. Accidentally he catches a sparkling instead. As he describes it, a sparkling is “a goody-goody spirit that helps heroes, watches over little children and messes up villains’ plans.” When he realizes he has a sparkling, Arkus wants to scream his head off, but he is stuck! His life is in for some big changes.
I would recommend “My Sparkling Misfortune” to people who like action and adventure. It was a hilarious book!
