In “My Heart is Like a Zoo” we explore different feelings and traits through a procession of twenty different animals. The unique thing about this book is that all of the animals are made out of heart shapes; in fact, there are over 300 hearts in all throughout the book.

Max: “It was fun to look for all of the hearts. I liked to find all of them. We didn’t count all of them though because I don’t know how to count that high. They were everywhere! My favorite picture was the one with all of the animals on the shelf at the end.”

Parent’s comments:

“My Heart is Like a Zoo” by Michael Hall was a lot of fun to read. We spent a long time pointing out each and every heart shape that we could find (and then afterward my son went through, on his own, to try and find them all again!). “My Heart is Like a Zoo” also provided a great opportunity to work on color and animal recognition. We recommend this creative book!
