“My Beach Book” is a Smithsonian board book that explores all kinds of different things that you see at the beach–like sand, shells, waves, and seaweed.  It is an interactive book in the sense that the text asks your child questions such as “”What do you see washed up on the beach?” and then next there is a picture of and the word “seaweed.”

Cayden:  “When can we go to the beach?”

Max:  “Beach!  Play!”

Cayden: “Is there sand under the water too?”

Cayden:  “Waves are crashing on the beach!  There were waves at the water park that we were just at too!”

Max:  “Park!  Water!”

Cayden:  “Seagulls are called birds too.”

Cayden:  “The sand castle page is my favorite because I like to build sand castles at the beach with Max.”

Parent’s comments:
My children liked the question and answer format of “My Beach Book.”  Although Cayden wasn’t that familiar with seaweed or seagulls when we first read the book he learned what they were quickly and knew the answers by the second reading.  The book is simple and easy to follow with clear, basic pictures and would be fun to read before or after a trip to the beach!
