“Kind-Hearted Pig: With Wings and a Halo” takes place on the Haugstad Family Farm on the hottest day of the year. Everyone is cooling off in the mud hole and this is where we meet Nicodemus, a small pig and everyone’s friend. He always gets all of the attention and this causes all of his brothers and sisters to become jealous. The book addresses the issue of jealousy and also addresses the issue of acting like you are better than other people.
Cayden: “I liked how the book had questions in it that we were supposed to answer like ‘Do you know anyone like Nicodemus?’ His family was jealous because everyone was friends with him so his family said mean things. But, you shouldn’t do that and that is what the book said.”
Parent’s comments:
I thought that the “Kind-Hearted Pig: With Wings and a Halo” by Paul S. Gilbertson contained a wonderful message and was relayed in a manner that allowed the child to reflect and truly absorb the information presented. The book is “published for the benefit of REACH a Child, a non-profit organization to help expand the programs of this initiative throughout the U.S. and abroad.” I was unfamiliar with what REACH a Child was before viewing their website and after learning about the organization, it truly is a great cause!
