In Sherry West’s children’s story of “It’s Raining Cats! It’s Raining Dogs! It’s Raining Bats! And Pollywogs!” you see all kinds of animals falling from the sky. There are animals from the zoo, farm, ocean, and jungle in the book. The pages are written in rhymes, and the pictures are of the animals falling from the sky in pretty, light colors. This book is funny to read, especially the parts when a slug falls in your coffee and a bear falls into some underwear! I’m not sure what a Pollywog is, but it’s funny, too. Both me and my younger brother laughed while we were reading this book. I think kids of any age will like reading this book because there are lots of animals in it and it’s silly that they are falling from the sky, like rain.
Note from Mom:
I enjoyed reading this book to Lydia and her brother, it’s developmentally appropriate for the age level so that they could understand all of it. All of the animals (with the exception of the Pollywog) are ones that kids will already know, so it will be easy for them to clearly picture what’s happening. The colors on the pages give off a calm vibe and are drawn in pastel colors and cartoon-style, pleasing to a child’s eye. I agree with Lydia that any child will enjoy reading this book. There’s not a lot to the story, meaning that it focuses on one topic (animals falling from the sky), but for younger kids, this is good for them.
