“If You Were Me and Lived in…The American West” by Carole P. Roman, will take you, like she says, “in the time machine and travel to our past.” It started in Willamette Valley, a place where many people move from the east in the 19th century because of the excess flooding, so farming was hard. That’s how migration started– to look for good land to work it and survive.

It is amazing how they loaded their wagon (Conestoga), lined up their animals, and left to a better life. Discover how it would have been if you lived in the American West and traveled five months, only taking two changes of clothes. My dad would wear overalls and a shirt, and my mother and I would wear full skirts.

Helping to milk the cows and churning butter was one of the things to do. Just imagine, many other things that you will learn. I enjoyed my trip in the time machine. I loved the part of the famous people from the American West and the Glossary.

A Note from Paola’s Mom:

Paola is always interested in the “If You Were Me” series, and in “If You Were Me and Lived in…The American West” by Carole P. Roman she was so much into it that her imagination just flied. Excellent learning book.
