“If You Were Me and Lived in…Colonial America” by Carole P. Roman, is about living in London. England was a Catholic country until King Henry VIII created the Church of England. Many ran away to the Netherlands when they felt wronged for not following. From there you would have to sail to the New World on The Mayflower and The Speedwell, arriving in Plymouth, New England in very bad winter. Your dad would have to look in that weather for a place to stay in that weather, and feel very cold. It was not easy to find a place to stay and many could not resist the cold weather and supplies running out. It would have been very rough times for a long while until you were settled in a very small place that was built with wood and mud. Your Mom would have a small garden where she grew vegetables. You would have a friend that was native from the Wampanoag (Wam-pan-oag) tribe that would talk you with using their hands and would show you how to hunt and trap.
“If You Were Me and Lived in… Colonial America “by Carole P. Roman, will really show you how life would be in Colonial America, how all started, the reason why people chose to move, leaving what they had, to start in a new and different place. It is a very good book. I liked it very much.
A Note from Paola’s Mom:
It was a great learning experience for Paola, she thought about all what she would have gone through if she lived in Colonial America and expressed how grateful she is for what she has today.
