“If You Were Me and Lived in …China” by Carole P. Roman is about this far away country located east of Asia, and it is one where more people live. China has different climates, and has two famous rivers, the Yangtze and the Yellow River.  Beijing is the capital, and it is also called Peking because many people don’t know how to pronounce it right as well as China trying to pronounce Qin. The Qin’s are a family that has been around for thousands of years. China also has big highways and trains, and the airport is the second busiest airport in the world. China has many parks, gardens and palaces where the Emperors once lived. The palaces are big and beautiful with many rooms and secrets chambers that are so secret some of them haven’t been found yet. If you are a boy in China your parents will pick a name that has a meaning like Fu (happiness), or if you are a girl your name will be Zi (smart), or Yu that stands for Jade, a pretty gemstone. You would say baba instead of daddy.  In a store you will buy a Wawa (doll) and you will pay with Renminbi. There are so many things to see and so many places, like the Giant Terracotta or clay army that they discovered not too long ago that was buried more than two thousand years ago. The food that you will eat is Mandarin in the North like a Peking duck and noodles or Cantonese in the South, and as a sweet treat you can have fried ice cream and tea. The big celebration in China is the New Year that stars at midnight.  Baba will repaint the windows and doors red and mama will hide the broom and dust pan before it starts for good luck.

“If You Were Me and Lived in…China” by Carole P. Roman is a great book that will teach you some much in a very easy and fun way. I love this book and each and every one in this series. I recommend it as a kids travel guide, or to take it with you to Xue Xia (school), so many kids will learn more about other cultures.
