Has someone ever called you a chatterbox?  Do you like reading poems?  Hyam the cat is not your ordinary house cat.  His speaking ability and flair for dramatics has earned him an important job.  He is a theatrical cat for West End productions and very adventurous.

His story is told through poems. With this way of telling a story, you can easily stop and start-up reading.  You will find yourself falling in love with this guy and not wanting to stop reading until you are finished with this book.  I found myself laughing throughout this book and not wanting to stop reading it.  I was sad to see the story end. I hope Hyam is featured in another book because I would be sure to read it.

I used to think that poetry was kind of boring, but after I read this book, I found that poetry is a language all its own.  I competed in poetry in forensics last year and “Hyam” by Pamela Douglas may have just helped me decide on my forensics competition again this year.  These poems are unique and can make poetry fans out of a whole bunch of kids who were like me and thought poetry was boring.
