“Humongous (& Cool) Words For Kids” by SB Hilarion is not your normal story book, but a collection of over 800 fascinating and strange words. When we received a copy of this book, we were immediately drawn to the unusual words and pictures.

Most of these words that are found in this book, my sister and I had never even heard of! It was fun going back and forth taking turns reading a new fact about something we did not know even existed. The pictures along the way helped you envision the words and get a better understanding of the definition.

One of our favorite parts in the book was about the “The Tree of Life,” also called the Baobab Tree, which is found in Madagascar and Australia. Every part of the tree from its leaves to its bark can be used for something. It also stores large amounts of water. We liked how the author included a picture of the tree, so you can get an idea of just how big and beautiful they are. There are many more amazing facts like this one throughout the book.

We thought it was interesting how the author had the main characters asking questions and giving their thoughts on a particular word and its meaning.

The terms are in alphabetical order and are numbered in the upper left corner of every other page, so that it is easy to go back and locate a word you might want to show someone. Every time we found an unusual fact, we would share it with our family, or have them guess what the word meant. Most of the words in the book were new to our family, so it was a fun game to play with them.

Overall, we both had fun using “Humongous (& Cool) Words For Kids” by SB Hilarion in different ways. It was fun to just look over all the interesting pictures and read about strange things from all over the world. It was also a fun game of “guess what” or “did you know” that we played with the other members of our family. The book is a great way to learn new things, and to share what you have learned with others.
