“How to Train Your Dragon: Meet the Dragons” is an “I Can Read!” Level 2 book. The goal of Level 2 books is to create “high-interest stories for developing readers.” This book is based on the upcoming DreamWorks movie “How to Train Your Dragon” and we are introduced to the main characters and taught about the different kinds of dragons and how to fight against them.
Cayden: “I liked the first picture in the book when all of the dragons were in the sky and flying to the island of Berk. There were lots of different kinds of dragons. I liked when they had dragon training class and they showed all of the different things that the dragons could do. My favorite dragon was the one who could eat rocks and turn them in lava balls. I could read some of the words in the book but needed help with a lot of them like the different kinds of dragons’ names. I think we should go see this movie when it comes out!”
Parent’s comments:
“How to Train Your Dragon: Meet the Dragons” by Catherine Hapka definitely met the Level 2 criteria defined above. It held my son’s attention and was an interesting story from start to finish. Some of the words were a little challenging for him in the beginning but by the second time through he was able to read most of the book on his own.
