I think this is a nice book about a cute little hamster and a boy named Ben. He lost his hamster named Houdini and this wasn’t the first time. He wanted another pet, but his parents said he couldn’t have one until he learned to take care of himself. They told him he could have another pet someday if he does all his chores on the chart. Ben tries really hard to remember to do his chores.
My favorite part of “Houdini’s Gift” by Jeanne Gehret is when a little black mouse came in the house through the hole Houdini escaped through! I really like the picture of Ben imagining all the pets he wants to get. I really like the penguin drawing best. I learned that you need to take good care of your pets.
