Floating on Mama’s Song

Bright, colorful pictures. A mama sings and is uplifted as in floating. Not very realistic. Grandmother tells mother to stop singing and then neighbors complain that their animals are not acting the same and seem out of sorts. This book was over a 6-year-old’s concept.
Zoey: “I didn’t like this book so much, it was hard to understand and the hands of the people in the book were too small. It was a sad book when the grandmother told the mom she couldn’t sing anymore. She was very sad. The daughter tried to get her mom to sing again. I don’t like sad stories. The colors were bright, but you don’t float when you sing.”
Zoey’s nana: I think “Floating on Mama’s Song” was a disappointment for Zoey- she didn’t like the pictures or the mean look on the grandmother’s face. She didn’t understand the concept of uplifting- I think it was a bit over her head in understanding.
