“Dirk Bones and the Mystery of the Missing Books” is an “I Can Read!” – Level 1, Beginning Reading Book.  Level 1 books contain “simple sentences for eager new readers.”  The story centers on author Edgar Bleek, an author of scary books.  He finds that he is missing the only copy of his newest book.  Dirk Bones, a reporter, sets off on the trail to solve the mystery of the book’s disappearance.

Cayden:  “I love mysteries.  This mystery is kind of like the ones on Scooby Doo and the Detective Agency.  It is scary!  I liked the clues in the book.  My favorite part was the big dripping thing in the water.  I can read some of the words in this book.  The pictures were scary.  I like scary pictures.”

Parent’s comments:
My son loves anything “scary” and also any type of mystery so “Dirk Bones and the Mystery of the Missing Books” by Doug Cushman was perfect for him.  He is a beginning reader so the format that the book was written in was very helpful in aiding his progress.  He recognized certain words and was eager to learn the new ones.  The story and the illustrations were entertaining and we recommend this book to any child just starting out reading.
