“This is a CD that has three different stories on it about an armadillo name Bluebonnet. I didn’t know what it was going to be about when I first looked at it because there aren’t many pictures about it on the cover. There is a big picture of a bear with a pile of books, but that isn’t what the CD is about. There is a small picture of Bluebonnet up in the top corner but that is all.
All of the stories are about Texas. It said she is named from the state flower of Texas. I didn’t know much about Texas but I learned some things. I wish there was one like this about Wisconsin so I could learn about here too.
I liked all of the stories that they read on the CD. My favorite was the one when Bluebonnet went to the State Fair. I liked when she rode on the roller coaster! I don’t think armadillos can really ride on roller coasters though! I liked the story about the Alamo too. I learned about Jim Bowie.”
Parent’s comments:
The saying about not judging a book by its cover holds true here. My son wasn’t too intrigued by the cover of the audio book, but once we popped it in the CD player he listened intently until all three stories were completed.
While listening to the stories, we learned a lot about Texas history. I think that this audio book, “Bluebonnet of the Hill Country,” would be a fun way for children living in Texas to learn about their state’s past, geography, and points of interest. As my son stated, I wish there was a series like this that explored these topics of interest in our state. What a great teaching tool!
