When I received “Afterlife” by Claudia Gray in the mail, I was really excited about reading it! I absolutely love the “Evernight” series, so I was super excited to finally be able to read the last book in it! Once I finished reading, I was pleasantly surprised that I was actually happy with the way that this series ended. Normally, I am not happy with the way series end and I always want at least one more book in them. This time, all of my questions were answered and the way that the book ended just seemed so right.
This book begins with Lucas’ transformation into a vampire and Bianca staying as a wraith. When Lucas wakes up as a vampire, he wakes up extremely hungry (well thirsty really, since he did want to drink the blood, not eat it). His first instinct is to try and take a bite out of Vic! Because of this, Balthazar decides that the best thing for Lucas to do is to go back to Evernight so that Ms. Bethany can teach him how to overcome his bloodlust. Bianca is not happy about this, but as soon as she realizes how much Ms. Bethany can help Lucas she reluctantly agrees. Once they get back to Evernight, they discover that Ms. Bethany is catching wraiths! Now they must figure out why she’s trying to catch them before Bianca gets sucked into one!
One thing that I was angry with while reading this book was the fact that Lucas almost took a bite out of Vic! Vic is my favorite character in this series, so Vic getting harmed in any way at all makes me slightly angry.
I really enjoyed the side plots of “Afterlife,” with Charity and the way that she could get into Lucas’ dreams. Although Charity being in Lucas’ dreams was really bad for him, it made a really interesting read for me. The fact that she was able to hurt him from inside his dreams because she sired him totally blew my mind!
