This is a cute story of a boy who likes a girl who doesn’t know he exists. He forgets about the real friends he has. We all love Valentine’s Day and want the person we like to give us a special Valentine’s, but maybe we forget those who help us all the time. “A String of Hearts” is colorful, easy to read and says a lot about friendship.

Zoey:  “I liked the pictures, they were fun.  I remember when I liked this boy (don’t tell my mom) and it was Valentine’s Day. I got cards for the class, but I wanted something better for him. I got it and gave it to him and all he said was ‘Thanks, girls are dumb.’  That hurt my feelings. But I know like Sam we don’t have to do ‘special stuff’ other than being friends.  We should be friends with everyone and treat them all the same.”

Nana:   “A String of Hearts” was a great book; I think it taught us that you don’t have to give special “gifts” to those we like, but just be friends and treat everyone equal.  Boys at this age like girls but don’t want to be bothered with attention. Just treat everyone the same.
