In “No More Pencils, No More Books, No More Teacher’s Dirty Looks!,” Gilbert and his friends are attending their last day of first grade.  They have a special performance prepared for their parents and the students are all speculating as to who is going to get each of the different awards.

Cayden:  “It is almost my last day of school too, but I am in preschool and they are in first grade.  We have a show though for our moms and dads like they do. We even have graduation!  I like school and don’t want to stop going.  I wonder if they will give out awards at mine like they give out in the book.  This was a good book!”

Parent’s comments:

Although the students in Mrs. Byrd’s class are finishing first grade, any young child attending school will be able to relate to this book.  Cayden liked reading about what these children did on their last day of school and found many similarities between their class and his.  I think that “No More Pencils, No More Books, No More Teacher’s Dirty Looks!” by Diane deGroat would be a great classroom book to read on the final day of school!
