When I received “Once in a Full Moon,” I was really excited to read it. I loved the Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber, so I assumed that this book would be just as good as that series. Also, the cover of this book is so alluring, that I just had to start it as soon as I got it. After reading about half of the book, I was stumped. Where was Ellen Schreiber’s normal oomph in her writing? Where were her loveable characters and cute plotline? All I saw in this book was a confused little girl, and a boy trying too hard to be hot.

This book begins with a psychic telling Celeste Parker that she needs to beware of a kiss under the full moon. Well actually, it begins with Brandon Maddox moving to town, but the real action begins with her fortune telling at the psychic’s. Celeste doesn’t heed the warning of the psychic. Instead, she ends up kissing Brandon under the full moon. Suddenly things go crazy. Wolves are turning up everywhere.

So, it’s not that this book was really bad, it’s that I had high expectations going into reading it, and those expectations weren’t really met. There was nothing really wrong with this book, except that I thought that it was a little too blah. There wasn’t too much there that made me want to keep on turning the page. Maybe that’s because the only real werewolf novel I’ve ever really enjoyed is “Tantalize” by Cynthia Leitich Smith, but I don’t think that that book has killed werewolves for me. Personally, I feel as though maybe Ellen Schreiber should stay with vampires. I’ve loved every single one of the Vampire Kisses books!

One thing that I really loved about “Once in a Full Moon” was the cover. The color scheme, with most of the cover being slightly dark and shadowy, all except for the model on the cover’s lips, which were a bright pink, drew me in and made me want to read this book. The way the picture on top was shaped in such a way that the reader could definitely tie in the full moon to the entire book.
