In Grandma’s AtticArleta Richardson
This is a wonderful series of books where a child asks her grandmother about her life, how she dressed and what she did for fun. For older adults and kids who can remember attics, this brings a closeness of love. Zoey: “Well, my Nana doesn’t have an attic. She had to explain to me about an attic and what parents save from their life. But my Nana has some great things in her boxes or trunks she saved from my mom. I can’t believe how my mom or my Nana looked when they were young. They had weird clothes and liked different kinds of music. My Nana has some great jewelry that she saved that my mom wore. They saved newspaper articles and pictures and I had them tell me about them. I think finding out about how your Nana lived was great- she is so funny. I think the best thing I found was my Nana’s wedding dress. I tried on her veil and it was fun. This was a fun book and I liked reading about attics but it was hard for me to read. My Nana says books should be a challenge and make you want to explore.” Nana: Well, I personally loved “In Grandma’s Attic” as it brought back so many memories. However, today we don’t have attics and it was a bit challenging to explain to Zoey about them. She did find the trunks we kept and we did go through them. I think one of the main things she learned was that life is precious and we should remember all the good and bad times. |
