This story is about Jonathan, a boy who runs away from home because he does not fit in. He meets a hippo, a bird, and a skunk. He tells the hippo he is lost and afraid of the dark. The hippo helps him.

Jonathan makes six new friends. He meets a bird, a skunk, a fish, a turtle, and a spider along with the hippo.

The boy ends up going home. The hippo does, too. The boy figures out that it does not matter if you fit in. He parents still love him.

I do not like the black and white pictures. My mom says they are dark, because it is nighttime in the book, “Jonathan’s Discovery.” The boy is in bright blue and white.

Mother: "Would you recommend this book to your friends?"
J.T.: "Maybe."

Mother: "Were the words too hard to read?"
J.T.: "No."
