DizzyStacy A. Nyikos
Dizzy is a dolphin. He likes performing tricks. “Dizzy” is written in rhyme. Throughout “Dizzy,” the dolphin interacts with other animals, and he notices the environment around him. Parish liked to “read” this book upside-down for some reason. That was challenging. “Dizzy” did not hold her attention. I found it to be a bit drab, also. I am sure that there are some children that are really excited about dolphins and the ocean. Parish is not one of them. “That is a dolphin.” I point to Dizzy. She does not respond. She flips pages. “Do you like this book?” “Why not?” “Do you want to keep it or give it away?” I left it on the family room floor for a few days to see if she would pick it up. She did not. “Dizzy” is not attention-grabbing. Older children who like marine life may find “Dizzy” enjoyable. Most of the words are easy to sound out for beginning readers. Overall, I do not recommend it. |
