Cayden:  “It is a rainy day in this book and they decide to go for a ride on a subway.  A subway is a train that goes under the ground.  I know that because I saw it on a show once.  We don’t have them here, but I wish we did.  There are lots of stations on the maps in the book and lots of different subway trains.  They have different letters and numbers and go different places.  I didn’t know lots of the places they were talking about.  I liked how the book was colorful!”

Parent’s comments:

“Subway” would be the perfect book for a child from the New York area who is familiar with riding the trains and is familiar with the different stations and stops.  There are many, many specific places mentioned like 42nd St, DeKalb, Canal, Union Square, Chambers (and probably around 50 more.)   In some ways this was a little overwhelming for my son as most of the names were unfamiliar to him.  However, he did enjoy learning how vast the subway system is and really loved the illustrations in the book!

What are little boys to do when it rains in the city?  Ride the subway!  This story explores the subway system of New York City on a rainy day!  It is colorful and original! A must have for children of all ages.

Madison: “Greatest of all, I wish I could go on a subway!  Have you been on a subway?  What does subway mean?  I like trains!”

Hailey: “Subway!  Good!  I like.”

Mom:  I thought this book was very original!  Even the illustrations are fascinating.  It was fun to read to my children about the transportation system that happens below the ground!  It opened up a whole new world to them and they had lots of questions.  The book is set up in a rhyming text which makes it easy to read.  It flows, and my daughter even noticed that some of the words rhymed!  “Subway” by Christoph Niemann is a refreshing fun, interactive book for children and parents.
