“Henry in Love” begins with Henry waking up to the smell of blueberry muffins wafting through his room.  His mom tells him that the muffins are for school and gives one each to Henry and his friends.  Henry has a crush on Chloe, a girl who goes to his school, and ends up wooing her with the muffin.

Max:  “How come when he was in bed his blanket was too small for him?  His feet probably get cold like that!  I like blueberry muffins too!  Can you make some for me mom?  I liked when they played football.  Henry likes that girl and he gives her that muffin and eats her carrot.  I would eat the blueberry muffin.”

Parent’s comments: 

I wasn’t sure how my son would react to “Henry in Love” by Peter McCarty as it is a “love story” and boys don’t generally go for that type of thing.  It was interesting to see that his comments about the book mainly focused on the blueberry muffin and playing football.  He also enjoyed the illustrations especially the ones when they were running around and playing on the playground.  He wonders though why the blueberry muffins that I make aren’t completely blue like the ones in the book though.
