“Traegonia: The Ember Rune” by K. S. Krueger is about a boy named Dino and his Traegon friends Karia and Juna.  Traegons are mystical creatures about sixteen-inches tall who live in the forest.  They are smart, curious and friendly.  When Dino found out that he and family were going to California for a week in the summer, he was disappointed because he wanted to spend the summer with his Traegon friends Karia and Juna.  But will the friends concoct a plan to stay together?

Karia has been having strange sleep tales (aka dreams) about being alone in a giant forest fire.  So Karia and Juna decide to trek to the oracle to see what these sleep tales mean.  It was a long journey and their parents knew they would be gone for a long while.  When the oracle said that he could not help, they visited Dino who lived nearby.  When they found out that Dino was going to the mountains of California, they wanted to go to.  Since their parents didn’t expect them home for a while, they figured they could tag along with Dino.

Their troubles start when they try to get through airport security.  Stuffed in a suitcase and wrapped in a reflective blanket, they slipped past the x-ray machine.  Never having been in an airport or an airplane, they decided to explore and found themselves trapped in the company of Sir Kitty and Fanblade.  Their antics make the security officers’ heads spin.

You will have to read about the adventures that awaited them in California.   I will tell you that they make important friends and there is a lot of suspense.  Will they learn the meaning of Karia’s sleep tales?

“Traegonia: The Ember Rune” is the second book in the series.  I had no trouble jumping right into the story, but I would really like to find out how Dino met the Traegons in the first book.  This was a funny, action-filled and suspenseful book, and I would recommend “Traegonia: The Ember Rune” to my friends and even to my mom.
