“Warriors Super Edition: Crookedstar’s Promise” by Erin Hunter is about when Stormkit and his older littermate Oakkit decided to sneak out of their RiverClan camp.  As they were sneaking about they discovered a ThunderClan cat on their territory right near the sunning rocks.  The invader was stealing RiverClan herbs.  They decided to chase him away, even though Oakkit thought they should really go tell their father Shellheart instead.  Of course the other cat was much bigger and stronger and wiser than the two kits, and their careful approach did not go unnoticed.  As they fled, the intruder clawed Stormkit’s tail knocking him off balance and into the river.  Stormkit’s jaw collided with the stone and resulted in Stormkit’s new name:  Crookedkit.

Luckily both kits made it back to the clan, but Crookedkit would have to wait longer to become an apprentice.  While he was waiting, he was approached by a warrior named Mapleshade.  Crookedkit thought that Mapleshade was from StarClan (where dead cats who have served their clan well go for eternity).  Little did he know that Mapleshade was really from the Dark Forest (where evil cats go for eternity).  Mapleshade said that she would teach Crookedkit how to fight but he needed to promise that he would be loyal to his clan above all else.  It turned out to be a promise that he regretted for the rest of his life.

Crookedkit finally became an apprentice under the mentoring of Cedarpelt.  He fell in love with Willowpaw, became a warrior, and eventually mated with Willowbreeze and became a father to three kits.  Sadly, Willowbreeze and two of her kits died of green cough.  Only Silverkit survived.  Crooketjaw became deputy.  Crookedstar became leader, but his life was a sad one, all due to an innocent promise made long ago.  You will have to read the book to find out more.

I would recommend “Warriors Super Edition: Crookedstar’s Promise” to people who like cats, action and adventure.  This book is called a ‘Super Edition’ because it is not part of another Warriors series (although some of the characters appear in other series).  You could also call it a Super Edition because it is super long - 491 pages.  There was also a bonus graphic novel about Crookedstar’s life.  Don’t let the length scare you off, though.  It is a great book and I finished it in four days.  It would have been a great book even if I hadn’t already read any other “Warriors” books.
