“Warriors: Skyclan and the Stranger: Beyond the Code” by Erin Hunter is a graphic novel about Sol (the Stranger) and how he begins life in Skyclan.  The summer is really hot and the prey is staying in its dens during the day.  The cats are hungry.  Leafstar, the leader of Skyclan, decides that they need to start sending hunting patrols out at night.  Sol leads one of the hunting parties and returns with enough food feed the clan for days on end.  Is he the best hunter that Skyclan has ever seen or does he have some deep secret?  Will there be consequences for the clan?

This is a Manga-style graphic novel which means that each page is full of pictures.  The words are all in bubbles. The drawings are very good at showing the mood of the cats.  There is a picture of four cats with their prey and they all look very triumphant.  The drawings are obviously still, but they are amazingly able to convey action and motion.  There is an attack scene and it really seems like all the animals are fighting.

I would recommend “Warriors: Skyclan and the Stranger: Beyond the Code” to people who like cats, Manga and action.  I think this book would be most enjoyed by people seven to twelve-years-old.  But lots of other ages would like it, too.  This is the second book in the series and I think readers will enjoy this book most if they’ve first read book one in the series.  Readers should be aware that there are a lot of advertisements for other Warrior books and a sample chapter of another book at the end.  This means that the book is over sooner than expected.  It took me less than an hour to read this book.
