Fox on the Ice (Bilingual Book)Tomson Highway
This is a great way for kids to learn about Canada and customs of the Canadian people, especially the Cree. It is written in both English and Cree. The pictures are done in oils. Zoey: “I liked reading this story because it taught me about ice fishing, dog sledding and a new language. Joe and Cody are ice fishing with their mom and dad. While Joe and his mom stayed in the dog sled, Cody and his dad started to cut holes in the ice so they could put their net in to catch fish. But the sled dogs woke up when they spotted a fox on the other side and started chasing after it with the mom and little brother in the sled. The dad didn’t know what or who to save first - the net or his wife and child. He decided that he would go after them and a wild chase happened.” Nana: “Fox on the Ice” is a really cute story about having to make decisions and the pictures were different than I have seen in many children’s books. The only thing that we thought the author should have put in was a little dictionary in the back so that we would know how to pronounce some of the easy words. |
