JunoniaKevin Henkes
Alice is again visiting Florida for her birthday, but this year she is turning ten so she is super excited! But when they get there, only some of the people are there, and not the one she plays with the most. Her favorite person is still coming, an adult she calls Aunt Kate, but she brings along her boyfriend and his six-year-old. Will Alice be able to take it? Alice loves visiting the beach and everyday she goes down and looks for shells. This year, she wants to find a Junonia. She can’t wait until her birthday; she loves her birthday dinner - she gets hot dogs, cake, and pie! One day she went down to the beach and the six-year-old, Mallory, went with Alice and her parents. Mallory’s dad and Aunt Kate join them as well. Kate suggests that they start Mallory on collecting shells so she has something to do to keep her occupied. She is right, Mallory loves it! On her birthday, Alice gets a headband, gelato spoons, a bracelet, and much more. She loved her birthday and it was super fun; it was her best birthday yet! Her parents announce that because she is now ten, she can go down to the beach by herself! So three times a day she goes and looks for a Junonia. On her last day, she is walking back, and right by her neighbor’s shoe there sits a Junonia! She runs to it pick it up and her neighbor gives her a look like, “Um, what are you doing?” The rest is told in the end of the book and you will be surprised. I love this book, it is so fun to read and it is so cool! It shows a lot of shells at the front of the book and if you look them up, they are very pretty. It’s a good book to read if you are my age, younger, or older. “Junonia” is a great book. I looked forward to reading it every day. |
