“The Prison-Ship Adventure of James Forten, Revolutionary War Captive” by Marty Rhodes Figley is a graphic novel.  The main character is James Forten who was a young, free African-American who went to sea to protect America from the British.

He worked on the “Royal Louis” but surrendered to the British “Amphion.”  The second he touched the “Amphion,” he was a prisoner.  He was afraid that he would end up a slave again.  All the prisoners were made to line up so some of them could be sent to another ship.  James Forten was holding his lucky blue marble.  The captain’s son asked him if he had more marbles, and he soon made a friend and played marbles with him.

Then he got sent to the stinky prison ship “Jersey” that smelled of death.  He helped take care of the sick in his spare time.  When he had a chance to escape, he gave his chance away to someone who was sick.  But, eventually he was released and became very rich.

I would recommend this book to people who like history and wars.  I think most of my friends would like “The Prison-Ship Adventure of James Forten, Revolutionary War Captive.”
