When I got “Posh and Prejudice,” I was slightly dismayed to find out that it was the second novel in Grace Dent’s Diary of a Chav series. I had not read the first, so I was afraid that I would not be able to understand parts of the second novel. Because I could not get a hold of a copy of the first novel in this series, I decided to just read the second one without reading the first one. Huge mistake. Because I had not read the first one, I was confused at quite a few points in the novel and in time, my confusion soon turned into boredom.

This book starts out with Shiraz Bailey Wood talking about her job at Mr.Yolk, a breakfast place near her house. She then goes on to talk about her family and her boyfriend Wesley. A little while later in the book, she goes to her old school to pick up her exam scores from the previous year. Low and behold, Shiraz got a high enough score to go into the 6th form! So Shiraz ventures back into the Superchav academy and finds it completely changed. Can she survive this change, and the super-sexy rich boys that come with it and not ruin any of her relationships?

Many times in this novel, I found myself rereading the same sentence or paragraph because it could not hold my interest. Even though this book took place in England, something I love in books, it could not get me into it. I really feel as though this was just as bad as the original “Pride and Prejudice” was. Another thing that I was slightly annoyed with was how the author kept on using phrases and locations that made me feel as though the story was taking place in the states even though I knew for a fact that this book was really taking place in England.

I don’t know if I would recommend this book to anyone, but I’m pretty sure that if you enjoyed the first book in this series, then ‘Posh and Prejudice” should be right up your alley.
