Reindeer
We all know about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Some of us can even name all of Santa’s reindeer. But what do we really know about them? “Reindeer” answers all of the questions you didn’t even realize you wanted to ask about the enchanting animals that pull Santa’s sleigh. Where were they born? What is their scientific name? Where do they sleep? And, what do they do during the summers? This humorous book answers all of these questions and more. R.M. Cuthbert lets her imagination run wild and shares all sorts of anecdotes about the reindeer. One Christmas, Santa’s sleigh was star-struck and a celestial crossing guard had to be appointed. Another time, a reindeer coat emergency and the goose strike required a call to the Inventions Center Hotline. And Rudolph’s problem with flower pollen and snout polish brought the space elves to the rescue to create a new polish from coconuts. These wild events are enhanced by colorful, clever illustrations that add more to the story if you look closely. For example, the geese on strike standing outside the Claus Cotton Cottage are holding signs that say "No Heat No Down", "Waddle Out For Heat", and "GUFFAW: Geese United for Flowing Adequate Warmth". “Reindeer” is a fun book and a wonderful addition to the old Christmas classics at reading time. It is appropriate as a book to be read to younger children, as well as for juveniles who can read the book themselves and enjoy the witty illustrations. It is a closer look at the animals that bring Christmas to kids all around the world. And as the author says, "Remember to leave a reindeer milk bucket on your driveway". And don’t forget to leave some reindeer food without raisins for Blitzen. You would be surprised what his raisin allergy could cause! |
