Biscuit Finds a Friend: Bizcocho encuentra un amigo: (Spanish edition) (My First I Can Read)
Cayden: “This one is in Spanish! Guau must mean ‘Woof” because that is what Biscuit says on every page in the other books. “ Cayden: “His new friend is a duck.” Cayden: “That duck sure has a lot of brothers and sisters!” Max: “Dog swim!” Cayden: “I wonder if they will play together again?” Cayden: “I liked reading a Biscuit book in Spanish, we never had one of those before. I didn’t know some of the words but some of them I did. Biscuit’s name is Bizcocho in Spanish!” Parent’s comments: “Bizcocho encuentra un amigo: Biscuit Finds a Friend” by Alyssa Satin Capucilli is part of the “My First I Can Read” series of books which would be excellent for beginning readers in Spanish-speaking families. However, in an English-speaking household the book is also very helpful in teaching children Spanish. There is a lot of repetition in the book and my children both picked up a couple of new words just after the first reading. It helped that the character of Biscuit was already familiar to them. For instance, they knew that Biscuit always says “Woof! Woof!” so they were easily able to translate “Guau! Guau!” We recommend this book to beginning Spanish readers and to those wanting to learn Spanish as a second language. |
