Ed Baker both wrote and illustrated “The Story of Kitten Cuckoo.”  The illustrations are simple and bold.  Parish and Isaac loved the pictures. 

The kitten is bright blue with a red “X” on his head.  He lives with Harrison Cruz, a reporter.  The kitten loves the zoo.  He especially likes the baby elephant.  The other animals talked about how they were not meant to be friends; they were too different. 

A Chinese food craving can make anyone go a bit crazy.  It made the kitten and baby elephant go on an escapade.  They found Chinese food and a disco club.  With their bellies full, they fall asleep.  Someone takes the elephant away.  This makes the kitten sad.  He continues on the escapade. 

The kitten becomes a cat.  Then he stumbles upon a group of elephants.  He finds out that the big elephant was his former friend.  The other elephants give the cat a “full-trunk salute” for a welcome.  Harrison Cruz went to Africa to film a television special.  He met up with the elephant and cat. 

This is simply cute.  Parish and Isaac like the pictures.  Parish enjoyed the travels of the cat and elephant.  Parish wants to keep “The Story of Kitten Cuckoo.”
